ok, i was backing out of work today and my foot slipped off the clutch and got the awfullest case of wheel hop i have ever witnessed. well it bent the crossmember and pulled a single 1/2" bolt and nut holding the crossmember instead of the 2 3/8" crossmember threads that stick out of the frame because those were snapped off by the previous owner, well now the crossmember is just hanging there and it's making the tranny jump around when i accelerate, kinda like when a tranny mount is broke. is there any way of fixing this? are the factory threads able to be replaced or am i up the creek without a paddle? heres a few pics of what im talking about




this was the only bolt holding the driving side of the crossmember up

i hate to say it but you are going to have to muscle those broke off bolts out.....grab the torch and some vise grips and pray you get them out.


apparently using your own make shift bolt holes just doesnt work..especially when you use ONE BOLT!

Easiest way is probably to hole-saw a small hole in th efloor pan right above it, cut or otherwise remove the wasted factory nut, and weld a new one on the inside of the "frame"; then use a plastic hole plug or something to cover the access hole you made. Do all 4 while you're at it.

i wasnt all too thrilled when i bought the car and had to change the tranny mount the week after and discovered that only bolt holding the driver side up, i've been mening to do this but i never got around to it once cold weather hit.

that was just stupid of whoever to put in ONE bolt...im curious to know how they got the one bolt to hold at all...

from the looks of it, they must of drilled a hole in the center between the bolt holes. i have no clue how it held this long, some people dont buy these cars to putt around it. i may have to take it to my neighbors garage and let him mess with it since he has a torch and evertyhing.
