Transmission Mount

I have a TH200C transmission in my 82 Firebird, not the most exciting gearbox in the world. I know some of you are thinking pull it out and put in a better one but I live in Ireland and there are no thirdgens here except a handfull that have been imported from the US. I am looking for a transmission mount for it but can't seem to find one on ebay. I am wondering would anyone know if the same mount is used on any of the later transmissions like the 350 maybe?. I had a hard time a few years ago getting a speedo housing for it but eventually got one from a later model gearbox.

There were never any 350s used in these cars. In 82, they had either the 200 or a 4-speed; later cars had either the 700 or the T-5. But none of that matters.

The same mount fits that 200, as fits virtually all GM RWD cars (with the exception of those few with the infamous "fluid-filled" mount, as described and pictured in James' link, and a very few other oddballs) from sometime in the 60s, on into the 21st century.

I would recommend NOT using a stock replacement mount; although you can probably get one of those at any parts store that stocks American car parts. Get this one instead. Note how many applications that mount fits.

I see everyone reccomends poly, doesn't that make for a rough ride once everything is converted from the rubber? I'm slowly swapping all bushings, but I'm at the point where I'm going to just use rubber for certain points.

No rubber left in my 85. The ride is firm, not harsh compared to my Jeep--but harsh compared to my wife's Chrysler LHS. Handling AND comfort may be a difficult balance.

No a poly trans mount won't cause a rough ride.

Bushings might be a different matter, maybe. Not an issue here.

Thanks guys for the information.

Sofakingdom: The one on your link is a square one where as the one on my car is round. Should it be the same as used on a 700R4? or do the bolt holes positions vary on the different transmissions.

Thanks.

The shape itself isn't real important.

As long as yours is about 1-1/2" tall (4cm or so) and has one stud coming out the bottom of it and a nut holding it to the crossmember, the Energy Suspension one will work.

The transmissions are all the same. All GM automatics, all 4-speeds, all 3-speeds, all 5-speeds, even the 6-speeds. That's why that ES mount has so many pages of applications.... it fits EVERYTHING. Well, almost everything, anyway.

I am looking on ebay at the moment for a mount, found an international seller but he is out of them for two weeks.

I was looking under the car again last night and see that there is a small leak where the selector linkage (I think its called) connects to the gear box. I was wondering is it possible to replace the seal on this without having to take out the box.

You may have remove the pan, but the box can stay put. Here's a screen dump from the GM EPC. Hope it helps.

Thanks Ricktpi, the pan needs to come off anyway so it would be good if I could get the selector seal done also. Now onto my next problem, finding a seal for an uncommon/hated gear box.. the TH200C! and getting someone who will ship to Ireland. Are these selector seals standard across most GM gearboxes? and where would I get one?

Thanks.

A poly tranny mount WILL increase vibration through your shifter at least. Been there and seen it too many times. I would keep the rubber mount.

Thanks guys for all your input, really appreciate it. I have nearly all the parts I need to tidy up the transmission and sort out the minor leaks. I have got one last question. I came across a tool on ebay to remove the seal on the selector linkage. I don't know what's involved to take it out, guess I will find out on the day. Could anyone tell me is it difficult to take out the seal (200C transmission). I know the pan will probably have to come off. Is this tool worth getting or is it a waist of money.

Thanks.
