auburn gear vs. eaton diff? Best one

That about sizes it up. Looking for a good posi unit for a street car. Auburn one is a little bit cheaper in price. Any pro's or con's going with one or the other?

Auburns are expensive to rebuild, and you must send it back to them. Eatons you can rebuild yourself at home for much less. Cone type(Auburn) vs clutch type(Eaton). GM used Auburns for many of their late model posi's, and many of them wore out much sooner than they should have. Also, Auburn does not offer rebuild services for many of teh factory diffs anymore. I can't help but wonder if the aftermarket ones could suffer the same fate.

from my expeirince

i have an oem type auburn in my 7.5 and i bought it used and rebuilt it my self
by rebuilt i mean dissasebled it clean it thouroughly and scuffed the cone and case friction areas and reassemled it with new springs (i got them from auburn) and it works awesome. the only thing to make sure is that the cones have not worn to the point that they contact the case at the outside (opposite of the c-clips) because that means that they are worn too far to be used

I dont know much about the Eaton units, but I am very pleased with my Auburn Pro. It hooks great and still corners like a dream. The Pro unit is a little more agressive than the regular Auburn and I imagine it will wear out a little sooner on a street car than the regular one. I have over 7000 miles on my Pro unit without any problems or signs of wear. I drive the car hard on the street on cruvy roads and also drag it on Friday nights.
