Hey all, I am in the debate of built my 7.5"?? or spend 1500$ more for a 12bolt or 9"... I done ripped out 1 stock 7.5" behind a 427 bb. I have another, I thought seriously about building it, I have heard some building them to hold, and some say NOPE, dont try! there Junk! You'll break again. I was thinking about some Moser axles, richmond gear set, and either auburn or eaton posi and a girdle.... I can get it all done for 1k$... me and my boss at work can set it up, he is very good with rear ends and more than happy to help me build it.. He thinks I'd be ok with a rebuild.. OH yea.. my specs: 434" bbc 11.0-1 comp. Custom Reed solid flat cam: .561/.569 234/242 @ .050 making approx. 450hp approx. 500-525 ft lbs You think I should try a rebuild?? or go ahead and cough up the 2500$?? I want to hear what some of yall have put these rear ends through and still running good??

man its just a waste of time and money, if you look around on ebay i've seen 9" houseings for our camaros for around 600-750 then just go find you a good third member and some axles.....you wont break it...

i've got teh setup you are looking to build and my wimpy 305 did something to the rear this past sunday (maybe something just got loose since I can't see an under 300ft/lbs torque 305 harming a decent 10 bolt). I personally would do a 9" or 12 bolt if you are drag racing the car.

364.389245 #'s of torque will destroy the rear end upon contact.

There is no magic number where it will break.

1000hp that doesnt hook is easier on it than 350hp if it all goes to the ground.

Autos(non T-brakes:-) ) are easier on rears than a stick.

Slicks are worse than street tires.

The lower the 60 foot the mor eI would get worried about the 7.5 rear, when that starts dropping into the 1.7's and down your getting on the borrowed time edge of things.

Thiers not even a ballpark figure of what they will handle!

Their is just way to many variables. But one thing is for sure they wont hold much if you hook.



So far so good for me, my new motor should be around 380hp/470ftlb at the fly on a cold day with a tail wind

But i imagine my rear will last quite a while, with the tires i have theirs no way ill ever get enough traction to do any damage!

Why spend $1k on building up a rear and still have to baby it because its still not very strong. For the few hundred extra you can get a rear that you can actually beat on a little bit without the worry of grenading it.

I cant remember the name of the shop but they had 9" rears ready to bolt into 3rd gen fbody for $1200-1300...

In your shoes, I'd go 9" or 12-bolt.
- That said, mine is getting pounded pretty hard for not being all that "built", and 87_TA is running in the 10's carrying the front tires through low gear on a lesser 10-bolt than mine.
