What should I do? Can a T5 take this?

Please excuse the questions below, I drive a Lincoln Mark 7 and want to get my f-body up and running. (Gave up on Chevy along time ago, and since everything else sucks want to try GM again)
I have a 85 Iroc, T5 L69 305 blowing smoke. I pulled the motor and have a 300HP 350 motor to install. What should I do about the transmission. Is this a T5 a world Class or a regular? Can this trans take the power? I don't drag race, but have been known to push my cars (as well as maintain them). Primarily I drive city, but try to highway drive as much as possible.
If a T56 is recommended, it will just add a few months to the build time (not a major problem)

The T5 will take more than you think. Your 85 however, is a NWC T5. Just dont launch the thing on slicks or powershift the hell out of it and youll be fine. I get a kick out of all the people on this site that say the T5 cant hold anything more than a 305. My old 15th anniversary TA had a WC T5, and a BW 9-bolt that I installed behind a cammed ZZ4. I regularly launched that car on DR's at the track at 4000rpm WOT, and powershifted the hell out of it, and never had a problem. I also know a guy with a decent 406 in an 83 Z with a NWC T5 and so far its holding up to occasional track duty. Just dont go overboard with the way you drive it.
