Well I put a post before about how I blew my tranny and I recently bought a rebuilt 700r4 to replace the 700r4 I already have in it. It has ~15-20k on it since rebuild, with a new torque converter and flywheel. Now the tranny numbers are 8663549, which is an 88 if im correct? Now the tranny was installed in a 91 Camaro wiht the same set-up as mine (350tpi mated to 700r4) only his had electric speedo so it was changed to it I guess if the tranny is an 88 unless out of a formula (again I'm not 100% about it)? Now besides swapping over the speed sensors, Is thre something else I should look out for? I did alot of searching, and got alot of info. So i'm not really look for a step by step basis on install. The main questions I have though, is
1. Should certain things be torqued down? b/c I read some people say just make them good and tight others say to tourque to specs, I have the chiltons and read up on that but wanted to find out from some people who have done it already.
2. I read that the flywheel and t/c have to be a ceratin length apart from eachother and arent something to be just bolted together is this true?
3. Kinda of relating to 2, Does the tranny, t/c, and flywheel all have to have a certain perfect type of aliign with eachother, like does a certain spot on the t/c need to match with the tranny or flywheel, etc. or is it just sliding it all on as a unit and making sure it is properly in place?
This is my first tranny swap, allthough I have swapped a 440 motor tranny into my charger, which turned out ok, it is just now I'll be seperating the motor and tranny and don't have alot of experience in this. So any help would be pretty awesome
Thanks for the help
4. and also would I be better off leaving in my 110k flywheel and converter in or putting in the new ones with the tranny? I think I already know the answer to this but I'm not sure what the best thing to do is, or if they even work together?
anybody know the answer that I'm looking for??? I plan on starting this tonight, removing the tranny thats in now and swapping the speedo gears than hopefully finishing the swap tomrrow night.
Thanks John
