If I adjust my TV cable like you are supposed to..WOT, it shifts poorly, (Too quick, and slips a tad on the 2 to 3 shift) If I adjust it a little further, it shifts perfect, but when I floor it, it moves the cable to the right posistion, and it shifts bad again...I try not to floor it, but damn its hard not to..Is this a cable problem, or is my tranny just wore out?????? I know by adjusting it a little further, it builds more pressure, and applys the bands a little tighter, Thanks for any answers...Tom

I have the same problem, I ve posted this before with no luck, I have had 3 different transmissions in it and replaced the cable. and it still does it. if you figure it out let me know.
it sounds like it is the cable, if you are adjusting it and the tranny is responding to the change, then the cable or the ratcheting part is broke. i did the wot thing too and it worked for me;seems like for some it ratchets and others it wont. i think i have heard of someone using sip ties to hold the setting or something like that.
Thats crazy, I had a tranny shop adjust mine, and it shifted great for awhile, then went back to how it was before. I figured the increased throttle valve pressure just wore the tranny out a bit more after awhile and caused it to do what it did before. Maybe my cable went back 2... hm..
Sonnax offers a fix for this, it is very easy to install. Sonnax part number AS1-01K, TV cable corrector kit. This will give more line pressure at part throttle, making the shifts later and firmer, while keeping the WOT the same and not having the TV cable come out of adjustment. A few customers have used this a few times over the years, and it worked very well.
Not necessarily, the TV system could be off from the factory. It is not very common, but I have seen this before and it can be solved as stated above.
Well, when cold, 1st to 2nd is not firm, but ok, 2-3 is eeeeek, flares all the way to 6 - 6 1/2. 3-4 is reeeeeal slow, sometimes i have to really let off the gas.
At WOT, 1-2 is firm, 2-3 is alot quicker, but still flares, but not firm, and 3-4 is faster, but not firm.
It sounds like you had this problem for awhile now, and fixing the TV setup is not going to be enough. Once the transmission is gone through, make sure that the TV setup is done right from the beginning! Are you planning on rebuilding the transmission yourself? I carry all the parts needed to do this right. If you need a built unit for this, let me know, as I can be of help either way, let me know?
Sonnax part number AS1-01K, I may try this as I have the exact same problem as described. Ive been shifting the car manualy when I have driven it,if it does fix the problem it may be alittle to late as 3rd doesnt feel as good as it used to, tci tranny probably has only like 1000 miles on it.If it works Ill let you all know, if it doesnt im going t56.
I was looking at the pic of the part suggested to fix the problem and I have a couple of questions. Wont this throw it off adjustment faster because the cable will be pulled out more , the only way i see this working is the actual cable being a little longer and then the spring would compress, or it being on the opposite side, instead of compressing it would stretch. Or does this part work differently.

Well I had the TV cable pressure turned up awhile back, and it made the shifts so much nicer -- for awhile
I had the same problem in my 87 with the 350 in it and the 3-4 clutchpacks were gone. I got it over with and went for the Monster Motorsports Level 2Kit along with Raybestos 3-4 Z-Paks and TransGo Shift kit. The Boost Valve was set at .472. A deep pan was added along with a 2400 stall. Now it is stomp and steer with NO Slippage. This is a very tight combination and would recommend it to anyone with a high mileage tranny. I think it cost me about a grand in parts and labor. I am actually doing my 2nd tranny now in my 86 Iroc since it is stackshifting and seems to have been installed just before I purchased the car back in May. My tranny guy test drove it and played with the TV Cable but still no improvement so he came to the same conclusion since I had no history on the tranny. The previous owner wont respond to my emails out of guilt I suppose since both rear tires were slick and fresh rubber on the rear quarters when the car got shipped to me. I am installing a 350 replacement TPI crate motor in the spring anyway so it will be ready for it. If you have a high mileage tranny I would suggest rebuild versus spending money continually troubleshooting. If you know a reputable rebuilder who is good it is worth it or find someone resonable like MadDog Transmissions in Florida and on EBay. He has already done your homework for you and won't cost you an arm and a leg!
Stackshifting is exactly as you described as to the premature shifting through the gears before they get into the proper range. Thus creating sluggish performance and higher than normal crusing RPM's. It currently yellow lines now just keeping up with faster traffic on the interstate. I will be rebuilding my 700R4 as of next week due this this same issue. It can probably be repaired but per my rebuilder by time I go through the valve body chasing gremlins I might as well let him go through it for $300 labor. Plus I will have the satisfaction of knowing that I will will be another 20 yrs before I have to go into the tranny as long as I am not abusing it.

what exactly is this part and what does it look like, can you get a pic? i may want one. i found the part on their site but there is no pic
Are there any benefits from this Sonnax TV device, when excisting TV cable is working normaly, and shifts are fine?
I mean, by installing this Sonnax device, you can tighten the TV cable a bit, (one click or so) so shifts are at slightly higher RPM's and maybe firmer, while at WOT everything stays the same, right?
This is basically a shift corrector kit. I does pretty much the same think that a shift kit does in a Turbo 350 or 400. The only benefit is enhanced shift points. I am using another brand that my builder installed on my first transmission and seems to firm up the shifts through using spacers as a slack adjustment on the TV Cable. Works real well and would recommend them to anyone running a 700R4 street setup!
You could do this and it would change the part throttle settings making them later if that is what you want. This is not a "shift corrector kit". The additional spring from Sonnax allows the TV cable to use a higher pressure setting at part throttle, without the TV cable losing its adjustment (setting) at WOT.

At that point, a rebuild is highly advisable, & Owen
will do top-flight work, at the best price you'll find.
He's also a good supplier of specialty parts, and
its always a fun trip to his shop just to see what
he has going on. Go check it out.

Hey man, thanks for the heads up...I will check him out...Was gonna try to do it myself, but after buying the sevice manual, I was a bit intimadated...Dont really have the money for a rebuild right now, but it is doing better now that I got the TV adjusted right...I am going to invest in the part talked about above...Also a Corvette servo...
