700r4 to th350 Output Shaft conversion piece?

Just had a th350 thrown into my 84 z28 today, got the dipstick and detent cable from my work (o reillys), and the shop ordered an aluminum adapter block so that i could re-use my torque arm, but the speedo gear wont work, and they're saying that I need a conversion output shaft to use so that i have a working spedometer lol.

Anyone know where to get one? They said they can get it, but its part of a $185 kit that has everything i have, minus the shaft.

You should be able to use the TH350 speedo gear setup in your '84. Just get the holder (bullet) and gear from/for a TH350 and should be set to go.

Re: 700r4 to th350 Output Shaft conversion piece?

this is the same problem that I'm having. Apparently when you get the kit you are supposed to install the conversion tailshaft. Well, I said to hell with that because I hunted down a th350 with a 9" tailshaft so I wouldn't have to rebuild it. Swapping the speedo isn't that easy. When you put on the aluminum spacer block and reuse your 700r4 tailshaft you move the speedo gear back in the case to a point that there is no point to mount the drive gear on the output shaft (the original th350 output shaft has a taper right where you need to install the drive gear and no hole drilled for the retainer pin for the drive gear. I'm wondering about using one of magneto speedometer kits from dakota digital? Anyone use that?
