got a loud nockin noise in trans ,i thought it was in motor but i took out 3 converter bolts and fired it up and noise is gone, put bolts back in and noise returns? 700r4 trans built up corvette servo shift kit you know the usuall stuff, it shifts great still . any help is greatly appreaciated guys
I'll second the cracked flexplate. I had the same thing happen to me. It sounded just like a rod knocking, but only under a load so I knew it was not the engine. Try moving the flexplate back and fourth while looking up at the the crank. If the flexplate moves and the crank doesn't, you found your problem.
ok thanks guys will check, but i got a question still, was wondering since i took out bolts could it still be a rod, maybe not making noise now because of no load on motor now? a friend suggested that as a possiblilty?
and do i pull on flexplate while the bolts are out of converter?
I doubt it's a rod. If it's a rod knocking it will make noise regardless of load. When I had that problem, I suck a flat screwdriver where the flex plate bolts to the converter (while it's still bolted to the converter) and rotated it back and forth while watching the crank. I got a little bit of movement at the flexplate and no movement at the crank.
ok just got car back,it was the bolts from flexplate to crank were worn down and wallowed the holes out even more?seems odd to me , but thats what i was told
