Questions about Raybestos blue plate clutches

My 700R4 went out on me about 2 weeks ago and I just took the car into a local trans shop to have a performance rebuild (shop was recommended by several people). The owner told me that he uses trans-go shift kits and gets his rebuild kits from transtar (which I heard was good). He told me that he is going to use their high performance street/strip kit which has the raybestos blue plate clutches (I know they are more expensive but don't mind). Now I have heard and read mixed reviews about using these clutches for street use (some strip use) and would like to know why they are good or bad. If anyone could give me a little more detail on their opinion (more than they are great or they suck) that would be great.

Re: Questions about Raybestos blue plate clutches

I personally don't know much about them but here is at least one site with a description. It could be marketing or the real deal.

About 1/3 way down the page

part #14XX

http://www.raybestospowertrain.com/pdf/ads/zpak.pdf

hope this helps

Re: Questions about Raybestos blue plate clutches

i called raybestos to get their recommendation on a street/ part time strip clutch and they recommended the blue plates. i have them in all but the reverse input which is regular raybestos clutches and the 3/4 which is the z-pac.

Re: Questions about Raybestos blue plate clutches

The only "dynamic" clutches in the transmission is the 3-4 clutch pack, and the overrun. I did the test on these in the 700R4 many years ago and found that the BPS clutches only equal the Borg Warner Hi-Energy clutches on the Strip, and will not last anywhere as long on the Street. As far as the other clutches in the transmission, there have been no problems with the Borg Warners. Using Blue Plate Specials anywhere else is just a waste of money.
