Torque converter stall speed

Car: 89 formula 350
Engine: 5.7L (L98)
Transmission: 700R4-(shift kit,corvette servo)
Axle/Gears: borge warner-3.27
Torque converter stall speed
Is it better to run a little higher stall speed on the 700R4 for performance runs? I've seen on here that a lot of people are running 2400 stall and running better times. My car is semi stock with a lot of bolt ons and such as you can see by my sig. I am planning very soon to do head and cam work as well. Any suggestions on this mod. I am after drag performance and also good streetability. #1 goal-to beat my friends 97 T/A in quarter mile.

Kinds depends on your combo....
But yes, with what you've got, more converter will help HUGELY with launch.
Watch out for traction issues though: you may find yourself in wheel hop hell. In which case, you'll probably need to add LCARBs to correct the faulty suspension geometry that causes that, which begins to be a problem whenever you get around to having enough power to store enough mis-directed energy in the rear springs when the car squats, to make the tires break loose.

thanks for the input. I already have a lot of traction issues and will get some slicks for the track as well. Need to get the power to the ground!!!!

Another quick question. Will a higher stall speed cause higher rpm shifting? I was hoping not since I think the car shifts too high to begin with at around 5,200 rpm. I don't want to pull out of the torque/hp range. Is 5,200 rpm too high or is that about right?

My shift is around the 5400-5500 mark. Our engines won't make much power above that range. I have a 2900 torque converter and launches hard, and works very well on the streets.

I think I'm going to stay around a 2400 stall converter. Nothing to radical and that will be a decent stall even if I put on new cam and heads. A nice hard launch is much needed but with major traction issues it is impossible. Installing this and a set of slicks and maybe a few suspension tweaks I think I will be able to pull hard down the 1/4 mile. Thanks for the input.

I've got a 2500rpm stall behind my real mild 305, and it works quite well. Definte performance upgrade over stock. Like Sofaking said, you'll want to look for more traction if you've got problems hooking now, a converter is just gonna make that worse.

Anyting in the 2400-2800 RPM range is pretty typical for these cars, and works well.
Yeah if you think you have traction problems NOW, you ain't seen nothin yet. A converter will make your car feel like the whole rear end is made out of rubber bands and oatmeal.
