Sounds like you have one of the infamous Gov-Loc, or "grenade-lock" carriers, as they're more commonly referred to. I'm not sure if there's any rebuild parts readily available for those, but you see them for sale pretty cheap on ebay all the time. In all honesty, if you can afford it, I'd highly recommend replacing it with an Auburn, Eaton, or a Zexel-Torsen unit. Those are called "grenade-lock" for a good reason. They're not very durable at all. I'd also advise against using a Richmond or Powertrax locker. They have miserable street manners (jerky, noisy, etc.). If you're on a limited budget, and just want to replace it with another Gov-Loc, ebay is going to be your best bet. There was a guy on there a while back who was selling reconditioned ones for about $150. If you can find him, maybe he could even tell you where you might be able to find rebuild parts for one, or you could maybe trade him yours as a core for a reconditioned unit.

Auburns are better than what you have right now, but I'd have to put the Eaton at the top of the heap. The Zexel-Torsen units are nice because it's all gears, so there's no clutch packs to ever wear out. The only issue you'd have with a Torsen is you'd have to upgrade to the 90-92, 28 spline axles. 89-down 10 bolts have 26 spline axles. The factory Auburn unit is fair, but the pro series are pretty stout. Only thing is, the pro series cost about the same as the Eaton, but they're not rebuildable like the Eaton. Torsen's are pretty affordable since they came stock in 98-newer f-bodies. They pop up on ebay pretty regularly. I picked a Torsen up for mine a couple of years ago on ebay for a paltry $135, and it even included the ring/pinion gears.

I grabbed a detroit tru-trac for $375 on summit. Similar design to the Torsion, but apparently a bit better (?). Stronger too. And the cheapest "posi" (aside from spools) available. $100 cheaper than the first clutch-pack style.
