Re: t56 on sbc

The LS1 tranny is slightly different. The bellhousing has one different bolt hole, and the input shaft is slightly longer. Have you done a search? I dont remember anyone using the LS1 T56 but its probably been done. Most people use the LT1 T56 or the aftermarket T56.

There is also two tech articles on this site for installing a T56. One of them is for T5 cars and the other is for automatic cars.

I think it's been done, but I'm not completely sure. You'd have to swap out a bunch of parts to get it to work. You're better off selling/trading the LS1 T56 for a LT1 T56.

I think you need to get a different input shaft among other things. From what I've heard it's not worth the time/money. Again, it's what I've heard. I've never done it nor researched it.

Re: t56 on sbc

There are people that have done the swap. Twilightoptics on here is one. I think he's running stock style thirdgen clutch/hydraulics, LS1 trans, and a mcloed or lakewood scattershield designed for the swap. He's also using a shorter driveshaft.

Re: t56 on sbc

...like I said, he runs a stock style 3rdgen clutch. Which has a clutch fork. So there is no need for a hydraulic throwout bearing.

Re: t56 on sbc

Do a search on my username, LS1 T56 to a Gen1 SBC. You can use a T5 bell and such with a LS1 trans. As mentioned IIRC Twilightoptics has done that swap.

this requires a special adaptor plate to use the t-5 bell housing.

It's an ls1 trans. Spec is the company that makes the clutch he's using and the one he has is a "Stage III"

Heard a T-5 bellhousing works also, and I can imagine its a hell of alot cheaper thean the McLeod one........Just need an adapter plate

http://www.thegearbox.org/catalog/it...41.htm#image_1

Re: t56 on sbc

Besides just the adapter plate and longer bushing, you also need to rework the crossmember, and shorten the driveshaft. Other then that it's pretty straight forward. I don't remember about the console, but if it is an issue, it would be an easy fix.
----------
Oops.... I forgot, you need either an aftermaket speedo, and adapter box (dakota digital I think), or a tailshaft modified for the gear-driven style it already has (jags that run).

Good luck, it's a great swap.

I'm not sure where you got your information, but Jags that run hasn't done those conversions for a long time now. I think I'm one of only a few left doing that conversion.
