PATC VS. Probuilt

I have a solid 91 700R4 that i am going to get rebuilt and i want it built proof. The core only has 70,000 miles on it so i am sure the core is solid. who would you chose to get the parts from Probuilt or PATC. If i go PATC should i get the gm 5 pinion planetary gear and the torque master kit.

Probuilt
PATC

also what is a good size stall for me current mods, mods in sig.

I have plans for a world 427 small block with 13 to 1 compression running on E85 in the 650 na fwhp range for next winter. That is why i want a very strong trans.

Extreme Duty Torque Drive Package
. You get a hardened input shaft and drum assembly plus a hardened reaction shell and bearing. Every time you think there's nothing else that can be done to a 700R4, here it comes. These parts are made to with-stand way over 600 foot pounds of torque. Fits late 1987 up.

Drum: Starting with select cores, the input shaft / drum assembly is disassembled and visually inspected. Then super heated until fully expanded and then X-rayed for internal cracks. Heating the drum collapses any carbon pockets thus ultimately strengthening the cast and stabilizes it. This process is followed by a flux test to determine if any external fractures are present. If all checks well a specially machined alloy support ring is then married to the drum.

Shaft: The shaft is cold and hot chemically forge treated to a military standard Rockwell 38 hardness. Then stress relieved which gives the shaft double the strength of its stock counterpart. The parts are reassembled and spun balanced at 9500 RPM. This step insures that this assembled unit will spin true with absolutely no harmonic vibrations to disturb engaging parts. Stock factory units were never balanced to this degree. The input shaft / drum assembly comes with a specially machined over-run piston and high temperature seal.

Extreme Duty Shell / Bearing Assembly: A new reaction shell is provided with a reinforced hub that is approximately twice the thickness of an OEM reaction shell. The reaction shell is hardened then spun balanced at 9500 RPM. We replace the OEM plastic thrust washer with a roller thrust bearing to reduce heat. A specially machined and hardened rear planetary inner race is included to complete the assembly. Call toll free 1-888-2012066 for your special price. Sale! Buy a 700 Raptor transmission and add the #45 Torque Drive Package as an upgrade for $187.00. This is a full $111.00 savings.

For farther information on these parts please call toll free, 1-888-2012066. We use these parts in our level four 700 Mega Raptor and 700-E Mega Raptor transmissions. Cost $298.00.

what one is better for my application

Re: PATC VS. Probuilt

ive always bought from PATC and there products are great. i got there raptor blood, boost valves, billet servos etc and theve been great. but i need to overhaul my trans to handle 500 NA hp and 650 boosted. i asked around and everyone swears on probuilt. eventually dana himself wrote on my thread and told me to call him. so i did and he really knows his stuff, he told me what i would need and he worked with me and asked me all about the car it was going in, the motor, the gears, how i drive and what i want. he was even able to tell me something with motors that affect trannys and what he would recomend with my motor for longevity. he didnt try to sell me anything i didnt want and told me exactly what i needed and worked out a deal/package. he spent about 20min on the phone with me. dana really knows his stuff, not to mention they are alot cheaper than PATC. i will be going with probuilt when it comes time.

I had a Raptor in a 496 Big Block 4x4. It was the best money I ever spent.

Do a search and see who has the most positive feedback, then decide who to buy from.

Re: PATC VS. Probuilt

i did search but there is really no bad reviews of ether out there. Probuilt is cheaper but they don't offer some of the parts PATC has ( like the gm's 5 pinion planetary or there new 6 pinion planetary ) so it is a tossup depending if i need that strength.

also what size and rpm stall should i get.

Re: PATC VS. Probuilt

I have nine & ten second vehicles out there using the 4 pinion planets, and they are not breaking them. I have only seen one in the last 12 years break, so I do not think they are weak. So save your money on this. The Alto clutches do not hold up well in the 3-4 clutch pack on 700R4's or 4L60E's, that is why I recommend the Borg Warner Hi-Energy's here. If you want the larger 2nd apply servo I carry and use the Sonnax version which is much easier on the transmission. The billet is to hard on parts. You only need the large 4th gear servo if you are going to make WOT 3-4 shifts all the time. If the transmission came with a 13 vane pump, (no 700R4 did) you can use the 13 or 10 vane setup, if it did not come that way, you "must" use the 10 vane setup, as the back half of the pump has different port slots to work with the 13 vane slide and rotor. If you want the strongest rated kit in terms of horsepower and torque, then go with the Pro Street Elite https://www.700r4l60e.com/store/prod...&cat=19&page=1 Nobody has a kit close to this. DANA

Re: PATC VS. Probuilt

I need to talk to my webmaster on this as this was last year. It was due to a combination of several deaths in the last 2+ years. Mother & father inlaw, Grandson, and a few good friends. Just needed to get away. I am back working harder than ever. Let me know if I can be of help? Dana

Re: PATC VS. Probuilt

Dana deffinitely knows his stuff. I've previously ordered all(I've built several now for different projects/people) my parts through PATC, but it's probably time I give him a try. I can't say cheaper or not, haven't checked.
Personally, I've had no problems with the alto clutches, even with over 25k miles in the blown big-block truck. I have also run the BW hi-energy setup and have not had any issues from it either. I agree on the planetaries, the only reason you hurt the 4 pinion is if you have overly aggressive part throttle shifts(meaning B&M "kits"). I have always used the billet servos in performance builds, the vette servo for regular rebuilds, I won't use the standard stockers at all. Not sure about their use with the transgo shift kit, I have previously only used the superior valvebody kit + the large boost valves. Unless you're gonna run fairly high rpm (7k +) the 10 vane pump is plenty capable.

As for the converter, either buy one now to suit what you have and then buy another when you change powerplants, or wait and just buy one for the new power plant. - Deffinitley don't put a used one in front of a new trans w/o having it flushed and/or cut open and checked. Either way, you can't buy parts suited for a future combination and install them on what you have unless you're satisfied with less than optimal results. - Every component is part of a "package". If any component does not suit the package, it will under-perform accordingly.

Hey Dana, do you offer any parts for the 4L80E? (too lazy to check right now....)
