Need TH-350 x-member help. Somethings not right!

Heres the situation...

Got a SBC with a short tail TH-350 installed.
The factory 700-r4 x-member obviously doesn't line up with the trans mount. The trans mount is to far foward.

So I purchased a Spohn Th-350 X-member and T/Arm used from a member here on the board.

Well, It seems to line up in the exact same place? The trans mount is still too far foward?

Is this a 700-r4 x-member?

Here is the Spohn Website photo Vs. What I have.

Yep looks like you have the wrong crossmember. If you can't sent it back to the seller I'm sure you could modify the spohn crossmember and make it work. Get an accurate measurement and take it to a fabrication shop.

Re: Need TH-350 x-member help. Think I got screwed!

there is no such thing as a th350 crossmember these cars never got a th350

when you put a th350 in these cars you use the crossmember you already have and use the relocator bracket for the mount

it is 1.5" different location

this thread is AMUSING

ppl never cease to amuse me

all you need is your stock original 700r4 crossmember, i dont know why ppl waste their time with aftermarket stuff when all they need is a simple flat piece of steel with four holes in it thats worth about 5 bucks

in my case when i swapped from the 200c to a th350 i didnt need the bracket since the 200 and th350 sahre the same mount location

so i sold this bracket to a member who was going from a 700r4 to th350

this is the part you need, with your 700r4 crossmember

very simple and easy

you could make one if you had a torch, drill press and any skill at all to work with a thick plate of steel

good luck!

Re: Need TH-350 x-member help. Think I got screwed!

The seller states that he used it with a long tail shaft? Mine has a short tail. But I didn't think that had an effect on the trans mount location.

I really dont want to change the shaft because than my Th-200 driveshaft will no longer work.

Who said that there is a such thing as a Th350 x-member. I was refering to a Spohn aftermarket product? I'm well aware that these cars never came with a TH-350.

I do not choose to put 500-700HP horsepower through a stock torque arm and a hand made relocation bracket. Thats how you end up with broken parts on the track. My setup costs me a lot of money and it is well worth $400 for a nice X-member with adjustable Torque arm.

The problem here is whether or not I purchased the right one.

Re: Need TH-350 x-member help. Think I got screwed!

andy82WS7,
Fast LS1 had a very good question and I confirmed that he does have the wrong Spohn crossmember. There is no wrong information there and nothing that is amusing. I think we are all on this board to share knowledge and ideas not to find amusement in how other people want to do something.

Yes it looks clearly as though you have the 700/T-5 crossmember, not the 350 one.

I'm not going to comment about "screwed", I guess that would depend on your own personal opinion, and what you paid for it.

However, I'd suggest contacting Steve directly, and see if he'll swap yours out for a favorable price. Who knows, you might still be able to do better that way, than you would have by buying a new one from him.

Re: Need TH-350 x-member help. Think I got screwed!

I tried to erase that title and it wouldn't let me. Im not the person that gets all crazy when somethings wrong. I'd rather find a sloution than keep building the problem up.

Just keep in mind when I bought this it was advertised that it was a Th-350 spohn crossmember. Made for a TH-350 trans in an 82-92 F-bod.

The origanal owner has been trying to help me as well. He states that he did in fact use this with his car and he had a long tail trans. He thinks that is my problem. Says I need an adaptor to make it work with the trans mount location.

Moral of the story is that I got a 700-r4 crossmember discuised as a Th-350 unit.

Ahhhh.... makes sense....

That trans WOULD use the same crossmember as a 700. So, FOR HIM, it WAS in fact a 350 one, as well. Just, not for about 95% of everybody else.

I'm glad the PO is working with you; most of the people I've dealt with here in the classifieds and whatnot have been pretty good about that. Stuff happens, it just has to be taken care of.

I'm not real sure whether an adapter will work or not, or whether there's any kind of "feature" of the trans that might get in the way. But if it works, then it'd be REAL simple; just a flat plate of metal about 4" x 6" with 4 holes in it.

Re: Need TH-350 x-member help. Think I got screwed!

I payed money for a Th-350 crossmember. I do not want to fabricate something to make the 700-r4 crossmember do the job. I'm going to have to resell it and try to recover the money. THIS SUX!
