hi, i have a 70 camaro with a 454 and a 1981 super t10, the t10 has a 3.42 first gear,2.88 second gear,1.46 third,1.00 forth,(1st gear sucks) i just got my taxes and i want 2 get my trans rebuilt with a new gear ratio and rear end gears built 2 match, i wont be racing but i want it 2 jump when i get on it, i also drive on the freeway so i need a combo that wont tack out when im on the freeway, any help or info will be appreciated, thanks darren
What's wrong with the current ratios?
What are the available choices anyway? Might want to contact a company that makes the gears. Tremec is a good start, to see what's available.
Also, this is a third gen forum, not first or second so....
my combo now sucks!! i have no first gear my rpms shoot shy high in 30 feet my second gear aint much better third and forth are ok,st10's have 5 set up's heres what i have 2 chose from 2.43-1.61-1.23-100 2.64-1.75-1.34-100 2.64-1.60-1.23-1.00 2.88-1.91-1.33-100 i have no idea what works with what, i just know what i have sucks, im not looking 4 build a race car i just want a correct combo that jumps in town and can still cruise at 70 with around 3000 rpms
Use the calculator in this link. You can plug in any ratio you want and it'll give you the answers you're looking for. http://www.5speedtransmissions.com/startlineratio.html For what it's worth, if you went with the 2.64 first gear in the trans, and a rearend gear around 3.55 to 3.73, you'd have a great launch. 3.42 is way too low for 1st gear in the trans unless you're running 2.73's in the rear, or have a 6 cylinder engine.

the 3.42 first and 2.88 second are 2 low my first gear is only about 25-30 feet, i have 2 shift 2 fast, i think it will be the same with 3.08s thanks darren
