Is my tranny shot?

So I thought I was having shift linkage issues, but now I'm pretty positive its just the transmission being dead. Hoping you guys can tell me I'm an idiot and im dead wrong.

Took the shift cable off, changed out to a stock shift cable on my 700r4 tranny, still couldn't find park. the car can't find neutral now either, only reverse and possibly some of the drive gears. When I tried pushing the shift lever (the one that comes off the side of the actual transmission, under the car) into park manually from under the car, it makes a squeeling noise and will not do so. Will I manually not be able to put enough force on it normally, or is my transmission completely shot?

P.S. is there any difference in the stock transmission in a 1990 camaro RS v6 and the 700r4 I have bolted to my 87 IROC thats having the trouble?

Re: Is my tranny shot?

a transmission from a v6 camaro will NOT bolt up to an IROC. all IROCS are equiped with v8's. the bell housing patterns are not interchange-able.

so in shopping for a new 700r4, I should ask specifically what kind of car the transmission came off of.

is my tranny dead?
