Re: mini spool?

yes you can do it in the driveway, but the minispool or even a full spool are a bad idea if the car ever sees street use. I wouldnt use it

Re: mini spool?

A mini spool is not designed for pavement use. They're used for dirt track racing or off road use where tire slip is normal.

Buy a good posi.

Re: mini spool?

a spool in a ford 8.8 is much stronger than a mini-spool in a 7.5 ten bolt that is designed for dirt track racing.

Re: mini spool?

So put the mini spool in and enjoy it while it lasts. When you snap an axle or lose control of the car in a corner, you'll realize how much money you could have saved by installing a posi.

Re: mini spool?

I barely understood that last post. I assume you're talking about a factory gov lock. It's not very strong.

If you go junkyard hunting for a posi, you'll need to find one from a 7.5" 10 bolt. They're available in many 80's GM vehicles. There are however 2 series and 3 series carriers so depending on the gears in your diff, you'll need to know what to look for.

Re: mini spool?

there is no full spool for the stock 10 bolt that i know of....And spools dont belong on the street, u might save a few bucks right now with a mini spool, but when u break axles, and destroy your tires ull quickly see spending that lil extra money for a posi unit would have been worth it....hell i see posi 9 bolts for sell on here all the time just buy one of those rears and swap it in and ull have a stronger rear anyways....or go get lsd rear from a forth gen and enjoy....

Re: mini spool?

first is there another latch bracket possi second yes of course you'll need to find one with the right gear range there are only 2 that i'v hear of and were made from 82 to present (272 323 )and (343 373 410) no too hard to find out just count your ring gear and pinion gear and divide or put a mark on the drum and spin it counting the drive shaft as it spins . 88 bird just like the latch bracket possi a spool of any kind locks both rear wheels together which i dangerous at high speeds or any speed especially in the rain because as most know when you turn your wheels move at a different speed and will make you spin out they are made for going straight only

wow u are trying to give rear end advice and dont even know what LSD is....hmm let me put it into terms u might better understand....."that there LSD is what them city boys call dat good ole posi traction i tell you what." sorry just playin. no LSD= Limited Slip Differential or as GM calls it Posi traction....and a better alternative then the 7.5 inch 10 bolt in stock form is the Borg Warner 9 bolt rear end they are supose to be a fair bit stronger then the 10 bolt and most are posi not all though....
