A couple weeks ago i swapped a Tremec TKO 500 into my Camaro. So far everything works great. I was told that a T5 speedo adapter would work, so i went to my GM dealer and bought the metal "sleeve" and the appropriate gear for my 3.42s.
When i went to put the sleeve into the tranny, it seemed like it was too big in diameter. i didn't want to force it and screw something up so i just put a rubber plug in the tranny and have been driving it without a speedo.
Is my only option the adapter that Forte's makes for the TKO?? Or am i just being a sally and should wack that thing into the tranny

you need his adapter, which i have laying around if you are interested, i will never use it.
I used the ford output on the trans and a dakota digital box, though i assume you have a cable driven speedo? Does his adapter work with a cable driven speedo
My car is a '87 so its a cable speedo, i did some research and found JAM performance sells both a cable and electric adapter for the TKO 500. I left them a message so hopefully they get back to me tomorrow.
I have an adapter sleeve for a T5 with the 19 tooth gear which cost me $51 and isn't returnable. Since the gear is attatched to the metal shaft, would i be able to use my gear with the aftermarket adapter?
hey, i'm using the fortes mechanical speedo adapter in my tko, i told him the tire/gear size and he installed the correct gear, works good, i had to trim my speedo cable some to fit in it..
on a side note, i wanna see your car in person!! check out nec-f.org

i just ordered a tko 600 from fortes...im running 4.11s he said it will be coming with the right gears arldy set up no matter the tire size...on a side note did you guys have to shorten your drive shafts?
Hey TunedPort. You'll need to get another gear for the adapter too. The TKO speedo adapter uses the Ford style gears. That T5 gear you have won't work at all. Fortes carries the correct, Ford gear in the 19 tooth version. Or if you want to save a few bucks, you can get them on ebay a bit cheaper than Fortes. I bought an 18 and 19 tooth gear for mine off ebay for about $20 shipped for both. Make sure they're for the manual trans application. The Ford automatic speedo gears look pretty similar, but they're a bit different. Btw, the 19 tooth gear is pink in color, 18 tooth is yellow, 20 is black, 21 is red, etc.
