Posi rebuild

Is it possible to rebuild my posi unit? It came out of an 87 10-bolt.

Yes it is. I did it on a second gen 10 bolt a few years ago. I believe the clutches were around $90 from the dealer. While I was at it I reaplaced the axl seals at the end of the shafts and inspected the bearings for wear.

The headest part was getting the spider gears lined up while inserting the tentioning mechanism and alignment pin. I narrowly averted a nightmare when the bolt holding the alignment broke. Luckily the remaining piece was loose enough to get out with a screw driver.

Good Luck!

The 10 bolt in 2nd gens and thirdgens are completely different and the limited slip units in third gen 10 bolts are not servicable except the early 80s Eaton posi units which are not any good anyway.
