I just aquired an 85 TA and when I shift into drive it hits hard, if I don't have my foot on the brake it will burn the tire... It doesn't do this shifting into reverse and shifting while driving is normal and smooth. Is this a problem? I'm usually at 800 - 1000 RPM (stand still) when this happens. Also there seems to be a little more than normal vibration while driving, could this be related and where should I start looking to resolve this? Thanks much!

Do you mean when you go from reverse to drive or park to drive??? Mine used to do that whenever I would do either of those two. It would even spin my tires with my foot on the brake. Don't know what caused it all I know is my tranny went out in May shortly after it started that. Well about 4 months after it started that. So I would shift into OD then it would jerk then I would go down to D. It was fine doing that then the tranny went. That is my experience with this problem.

The shifting "jump" doesn't happen when shifting into reverse or while driving, only when going from park to drive or OD. Any thoughts?
