MY TH700R4 now won't shift?

as you may recall My '86 IROC (new project car) had a bad transmission.so i took it out
found that the front pump had failed.replaced the front pump, and the cluthes with ones from a '91 60degree V6 that I had. I cleaned everything up real good.repualced the TV cable.Reintalled the trans. Then on my first test drive the trans would not shift out of first gear.played with the TV cable adjustment, even diconnected it. no luck.
here is my question;what do I check first?Maybe I have still not gotten some simple thin right?

Could be something simple like the governer stuck or the teeth worn out, or it could be that when you dropped the input housing and reverse input housing into the trans, you forgot to make sure the 2-4 band was on the anchor or apply pin. If you redline the engine, will it eventually shift (into third maybe?).

No! I did not go to the redline. But when I go to the point where it shoul have shifted and let off the gas.It acts like it is in neutral(no dynamic braking). But my '82Z did the same thing after I installed the B&M shfit kit when I would let off before reaching the shift point.
If it is the anchor pin,can i reset it without pulling the trans. again?
when we first got this car,and scared the hell out of ourselves driving it home.It would not shift then either. No problem,I just unhooked the TV cable and it would shift
.Way early, but it would shift.Even with the smoked front pump.

Hmm, sounds like governer problems. Take it to redline, and see if it still won't shift into any gear.

GMTECH,Yep! It shifted just shy of 5500 r.p.m. 1-2 and 2-3. I couldn`t get the 3-4
shift, as I was going way too fast in our
neighbourhood!(THAT WAS WITH THE TV DISCONNECTED)

Hmmm, well, it shouldn't be the 2-4 band since it finally did shift. How was the 2-3 shift? At what RPM did it shift. Take it out and make sure it has 3-4 shift also.

Yeah, its almost safe to say that none of the "mechanical" components are toast or defective. My guess would be valvebody problems, but since the governer is easier to swap out than pulling a valvebody, I would try another governer.

GMTECH,I took the governor out tonight. And sure enough it was stuck at about 2/3 travel.
So I took it apart and found many tiny metal chips in the upper most groove.Oiled it up and put it back in.I'll road test it tomorrow night.
