Finally got my 4th Gen rear in

So im finally all settled down at school and i figured i would share with you guys and post up pics of my new 4th Gen rear that i put in myself this past month. I previously had a 9 bolt in there with 3.45"s but i wore out the posi on that so it was time for a change! Also, i never seemed to find a decent pic on here of the 4th gen rear with stock 15in rims, for anyone else considering the swap.

Here is my new rear end. It came from a lt1 car and it has the 3.42" gears in it. I picked it up from Camaro Heaven in Tilton NH, its pretty much a 3rd and 4th gen graveyard with tons of second gens also, and one or two first gens. They were really great to go to and they have pretty much every part you could think of. They also will ship stuff to you nationwide. PM me if you want anymore details on them.

I painted the rear with POR-15, and painted my panhard bar and calipers red to make them look better untill i can afford some spohn stuff.

WHile i was swapping the rear i took the liberty of swapping in a Walbro 190, a disk brake prop valve and a few more odds and ends.

Here is how she sits now, untill i can afford some new rims and tires, im pretty happy with the result, i had some issues with tire rub on the fender driving to florida, and i need new springs and shocks but all in all im glad i got rid of the 9 bolt.

they even have complete cars for sale, most of the yard is third gens.... though.

Where did you get your parking brake cables? My rear brake calipers look like yours. I tried once to get the parking brake cables but they were too long. Do you know what part # yours are or what you asked for?

You used your stock rims? did I read that correctly.
That looks pretty good. do you have any othe pics available? maybe from the side or a frontal view down the side.
I am getting ready to do this swap and just wanted to see how it looks with stock rims on it.

Re: Finally got my 4th Gen rear in

Yea i will dig up a few pics from the front and such. TO answer some of the questions from a couple weeks ago, i actually got the cables with the rear, it was just cut out of a car and had the cables unhooked, they bolted right up and i got one good ebrake pull and now they wont lock up the rear brakes, something with the handle. They should make two different size cables, just go and ask for the shorter size, and No i didnt get "porked" on the rear lol, i talked with them for a while about cars and such and i waited about an hour for them to load it into my car for me, he said he should charge more but since i know my stuff he would sell it at a good price.

i am however a little tweaked at him at the moment, the rear i put in was sold with a bent axle, started up right after i put it in and i have finally confirmed it is a bent axle he told me that it was warrentied against any funny noises and failures and if i had problems to give him a call and we would work something out, well i called him and i was told to give his cell a ring and i left a message explaining what was up and hoping we could work something out, its been more than a week and no call back. I found an axle for pretty cheap and i would in no way tell anyone never to go buy parts from them, but i will say if you want something go in person, phone tag doesnt seem to be their strong suit.

what kinda diff comes with that rear end? i know our stock diffs come with a cone posi, but are the newer 4th gen rears still cone? or have they moved up to clutches or down to torsen?

Re: Finally got my 4th Gen rear in

the 9 bolt is the only cone posi that came stock in our cars. the 10 bolts, from 82 to 97 were all auburn style posi's with clutches and such. The only reason we got the 9 bolt was because of some sort of shortage. The Ls1 rears however, came with torsen type posi's which are completly different.
