Question about Detent cable adjustment

So I just dropped a 355 into my bird that had a 305 originally. Holley tells me that after installing a new cabr you need to get your detent cable adjusted. I read the article on here about adjusting the cable but it seems to be for readjusting the cable on a stock engine. I was wondering if that procedure still applies to cars that have new engines. The trans shop wants to charge me 60 bucks to adjust it and they said it would take them a total of a half hour which includes test driving. If its as easy as this article says I want to just do it myself, but i dont want to mess up my trans if there is a different procedure for engine/carb swaps.
