lets talk about dog box's :-)

so lately i been hearing alot about dog box's from friends of mine, but other than that, just about no one even knows what a dog box is(a straight cut manual tranny that you dont need to use the clutch to shift, if im not mistaken) and otherwise the strongest tranny you could ever own aswell. but lets talk about putting of one these behind a chevy v8 in a third gen. anyone have any info on this?

they have clutchs and you have to shift them with authority.

What's the point when a T56 bolts right in and is much more refined and plenty strong?

Re: lets talk about dog box's :-)

so having a dog box tranny is all about the clutches and not really having the tranny built with straight cut gears, dog rings, etc... i hear doing a t56 swap is alot of work though, and i dont know if im up to taking a saw to my floor and figuring out a way to retro the tranny, although i could be overrating the swap a bit much though, but i was also thinking about a building a v6 too and trying to find a t56 that would bolt up to a 60degree is a bit hard to find.

not great on the street. very clunky, designed to work at full throttle.

you can get a t56 with faced gears if you were super hardcore. otherwise, they aren't really necessary.

with a V-6? what's the point here at all? Just use a V6 T5, you're not making any power anyway.
There's a racer on here who used a T-10 for road course racing. He cut off every 2nd tooth on the gears. Helps them engage easier.

Re: lets talk about dog box's :-)

ya well im not too confident in the t5's anyways, running a stock 3.1 v6 the t5 wont even hold up to that, i could just imagine running the 300+hp hybrid 3.4 v6(and thats not even with the turbo's) with a t5 behind it, that would probably be a mess now. now im curious though(i should have researched it a bit more) but didnt gm put a t56 behind a v6 in the 4th gen? but either way i figured the dog box tranny would be a fun to drive, although i bet annoying trying to figure it out if never drove one before.

Re: lets talk about dog box's :-)

yeah the 4th gens have the new venture 5spd manual for the 6 cylinders but they're no stronger then a T5. If you wanted to put a t56 behind a 60 degree 6 cylinder I would look at Mcleod, Lakewood or equivalent manufacturer for an adapter plate or midplate.
