Whining is coming from the rear, but only during acceleration and while cruising. If I let off the gas, it goes away, but the slightest throttle and it returns.
The noise is almost a howling noise, and it increases in pitch and loudness as speed increases. You can begin to hear it at around 30 mph in any gear, and I've heard it all the way through 80 mph on the interstate (although it shows no signs of getting quieter at higher speeds).
I've checked the fluid and replaced and added limited slip additive. Fluid was clean, no metal shavings (a very small amount on the magnet, but not enough to suggest any problems). Gears look new (they should, they've only been in the car for about 6k miles).
Pinion bearing? Improperly set up gears? Something else?
Mine does it as well.Did you just put the gears in?I`ve heard the aftermarket gears can be noisier than the stock ones.My stock ones had a whine about the same speed range just not near as loud.Guy who put mine in said he heard it and it made him go back and triple check everything and all looked good.Welcome to TGO.
i just did the rear on my car this weekend. mine was winding aswell. i was like this is annoying. i had to replace the wheel bearings anyways. good thing they where gone. so i get it all clean as stated above, checked everything and ect and took her out and damn noise. WTH here. I also had a tech look at my car because when i shift it clunks and i was told that on these cars its normal and here i thought i needed new u joints. Im still learning these cars and there a bit different then my 79 TA. Great people here to help.
