Megashifter Relay troubles

Ok so ive searched the old posts, ive doubled checked everything, and i still an having trouble with my 89 Formula. Ive used the relay wiring diagram from the B&M website, i used the listed relay from radio shack.

When i hooked up the 10 gauge green and purple wires to the neutral/ back-up switches and nothing else, the car would start and run, but without the torque converter locking up.

Now i wired up the relay, as the diagram shows, and the car won't even turn over. I get a service engine/ security light, and it doesnt crank. 3

The park lock cable is fine, the key will come in and out of the ignition without any issues.

So, what do i do?

Re: Megashifter Relay troubles

I hate to sound like a broken record, but DOUBLE check your wiring locations on the relay itself. When I first started rewiring my car, I misunderstood some of the locations on the relay and ended up screwing something up. Make sure 30 is 30, 87 is 87, etc.

Another basic question, was there any problem with the shifter or with the TC locking up before the shifter install? If so, there may be other problems. IF there wasn't any pre-existing problems, Id be willing to be you just have a couple of wires swapped, or possibly (but not likely) a bad relay.

Other than that, I cannot help. I've always had manual trans cars. Good luck though

Before i removed the 6 wire plug from the gear selector it worked fine. I wanted to get the gear selector off the floor and start finishing my console. As soon as i took it off the converter stopped locking up. Ive wanted to re-wire it and replace it with the relay.

I went back to radio shack and got another relay. I started with fresh wires, soldered the whole thing together and tested it..... still the same result, security light/ check engine, no cranking.

Can anyone corret me if im wrong, but on the switches on the shifter, the front two should be the split wires from the drk blue wire. the top rear goes the ligth green wire, bottom rear runs to pin 13.

is there any fuses maybe i should be checking or a controller module somewhere else?

Re: Megashifter Relay troubles

I don't see anything on the B&M site referring to a relay on a Megashifter.

As far as the lockup goes, there is no relation to the shifter unless it does not go into 4th gear.

The instructions only talk about the wires to the backup lights and the neutral safety switch. The other two wires (org./blk. & blk/wht.) are to tell the computer the trans is in park or neutral.

Re: Megashifter Relay troubles

wait, how does the relay affect the torque converter lockup?

in mine, i got a white box that the directions said was optional to hook up.

i have noticed that the torque converter isnt locking up, but is this related to the relay?
