Never buy a Strange rear end

Had so many problems with this pos. First off the e brake cable has broke twice. Then it started to make a high pitch noise around 50 mph. I thought I could drown it out with my radio by turning it up, no didn't work. Then I called them and told them about the problem, they told me I had to go to one of there dealer. So I did, Strange sent them a new ring and pinion (which looks like crap and didn't fit, and was made in China!) That didn't work so they sent another piece of junk, and what do you know that didn't work. So I have been calling them asking for a replacement rear end. They will not do that. I talked to customer service for about 10 minutes and was put on hold 6 different times. And they told me either to bring it to their headquarters so they could fix it or just live with it. This was crap, they told me to just live with it. I only had it for 2 weeks before it started to make this noise. I know that it won't hurt anything to keep it the way it is. But I didn't spend 2500 dollars on a rear end that makes a high pitch whine noise. They told me next time you should buy a MOSER??? In my opinion do not buy STRANGE ANYTHING
I will get of my soap box now
Thanks

They told you to buy a Moser? In their defense, it is getting very hard to find a good quality ring & pinion set now. So many manufacturers have moved production to China and they are just no good.

Re: Never buy a Strange rear end

But the gears they took out were made in the USA and the rear end is only 6 months old!

Sorry to hear that, but I too have had a bad experience with them.
I was told basicly the same thing ....tough!

I think he said that because Moser is sometimes worse.
I also was told that by Currie.

Re: Never buy a Strange rear end

Wow, that's BS......after only two weeks of use and it makes noise? And they tried to install a cheaper gearset and that's supposed to make it OK? I know it won't make anything easier, but even Moser's warranty says in fine print that there not responsible for loud whining noises from their rear gears.....they claim it's due to the "high alloy" material so they won't take them back either. I don't agree with it, I just got lucky and mine was set up right I guess.

Still - I'd be tempted to deliver it back to them all right.....special delivery right through their front window! I feel your pain. It's tough to find decent customer service anywhere nowadays.

Re: Never buy a Strange rear end

my moser 9" has a little gear whine, nothing that i care to cry about, but its there, but its not bad. If yours is really loud i would keep bitching, there is not reason for that. The aftermarket gears are harder than the factory one, so they will be louder, but still withing reason.

Re: Never buy a Strange rear end

Moser has been having problems with gear noise too. That is why they are changing brands of gears again. Like I said, it's getting hard to find quality parts now. I've been building rear ends for about 27 years and I've had a few gears from each brand that made some noise. Most were fine, but sometimes you just get one that likes to whine. I'd like to think that my customer service was better than theirs when there was a problem. It is hard to service a rear end from a long distance when there is shipping charges and labor involved. I know that it's hard to take a $2500 hit like that and have to live with it.
