200-4R

Did Chevrolet ever put a THM200-4R in Camaros? I didn't think so, but when I crawled under my '83 that's what I found. Does that transmission have a lock-up torque converter? Any info will be helpful. Also, what were the ratios of the 200=4R?

I think I heard somewhere they used them in the early years (83,84 maybe) and in the turbos.... Ratios are close but I think they have a slightly milder 1st and a deeper overdrive. I may be wrong...

The transmission used in the '82 was the TH-200C, 3 speed automatic, not the TH-200-4R Overdrive unit.

My 82 came factory with a TH 200. Since this tranny is a piece of crap, it was swapped in 90 or 91 by the previous owner. The 3 speed Th 200 was the only auto in 82, and it was the baseline auto trans in 83. Some cars used the TH 350 in 83, but from 84 on until the 700 R4 the TH350 was the only available auto transmission.

The gear ratios are as follows. 2004R, 2.74 - 1.57 - 1.00 - .067. The 700R4, 3.06 - 1.63 - 1.00 - .070.

So, let's see if I've got this straight. The THM 200C was a three speed and the 200-4R was an 4 speed overdrive unit. Well, the car is a 4 speed so I guess it's the 200-4R. Thanks for all the helpful info.
