Posi differential options? 3.73 ratio?

I just finished off my rear-end. This is my daily driver (and so much more) so i need to get it back on the road pronto. I have been looking around. My original (now dead) set up was a 7 5/8" 3.42:1 Auburn posi

I want to go to 3.73 richmonds, but I hear they whine? Are these things crap or what?

as far as the diff, it appears my only choices are AUBURN (pro series) and Eaton (Although i dont think they make 26 spine?)
are there others? I hear the powertrax requires the existing carrier, which is dead so i would end up buying double the parts.

Any input on wise decisions would be GREATLY appreciated, i need to get this thing on the road! Thanks

No personal experience, but I've heard that the Richmonds are slightly noisy because of the stronger tooth design. After all, they are aftermarket performance gears used by people who have noisy cars anyway. If you have to buy the Eaton or Auburn new, you might consider a take off Torsen and 28 spline axles instead. It's no more work, since the axles have to come out anyway.

Thanks a million, I would LOVE to go to 28 + spline. I know you guys have heard it a billion times, but i SERIOUSLY am limited on money here, i NEVER use a credit card, and thats how im going to have to buy the posi/gears, just to get back on the road. I dont mind noisy gears at all, just wanna make sure its a quality kinda noise

If you are thinking serious about the powertrax, an open carrier that will fit is very, very common. Some junkyards toss them because they have so many. My richmond gear 3.73's don't make any noise, at least a louder noise than the exhaust(I have mufflers). I get a nice clicking sound when I turn really short--powertrax. That little ring gear will break before a 26 spline axle.

Yea I ran into that broken little gear problem Axle is fine, diff is not.

I do like the sounds of the power trax, but i tapped the junk yard resorce, there isn't a posi rear in a 200 mile radius from here.
