4L60E Accumulator questions

I am working on beefing up my 4L60E and I thought the way my accumulators were put in was odd. I think this might have been performed with a shift kit. The 1-2 accumulator looks like it was machined/cut down and a spacer was used. I took pics of the way they are currently assembled. Has anybody used a shift kit/mod like this? What is the point? It seems like accumulation would be lost this way.

Re: 4L60E Accumulator questions

I've seen that spacer in a B&M shift kit for an old 700R4, used to limit the travel of the piston or eliminate the stroke all together. What did the 2nd accumulator setup have as far as springs and spacers? How were the shifts prior to disassembly?

Re: 4L60E Accumulator questions

I bought this trans used so not sure what it had before. It is hard to judge the shifts because I have a TCI controller so I was tweaking the pressures. It did shift great on the 1-2 shifts though. I was mostly wondering because the pistons are installed reverse of what the manual states, springs under neath the pistons.

Re: 4L60E Accumulator questions

all 4l60e's put the 1-2 accumulator in with the springs installed into the housing first. stock they have an inner and outer spring but no spacer. the spacer is like sgt slaughter stated probably a shift kit similar to the old b&m kit limiting piston travel for a firmer upshift into 2nd. old 700r4's and early 4l60e's had the piston in first. either way works but most builders that do 4l60e's put the springs in first. if you want no accumulation take the springs out and keep the spacer in. IT WILL RATTLE YOUR DASH ON LIGHT UPSHIFTS. accumulation is good because it cushions the upshifts a little increasing the life of your trans. Transgo shift kits are preferable because they keep the accumulation. I say keep the trans stock and use a aftermarket programmer to increase the pressure through the pressure control solenoid. This way you can switch back and forth as needed. Sometimes stock is good.
