Ok here's the story i bought a 93 lt1 engine along with a 4l60E, these have electronic speedometer. I have a 89 RS 305 with 700r4. Is it possible to drive the original mecanical speedometer on the 4l60e without buying the kit from jegg ??? Is it possible to use the tail of the old 700r4 on the 4l60e ???? or is it possible to just simply connect it to the tranny ???

LT1 IS COMMING SOON.
4L60 or 4L60E? Very different beasts. The 4L60E is all electronically controlled and you'll need to get a computer to make it shift. You should be able to swap the tails and speedo gears though.
Your car has the mechanical speedo and the new transmission has a VSS? You can just pull the mechanical speedo gear housing and gear out of the old trans and put it into the new one.
Thanks Apeiron, I'll do what you say and I will not remove the tranny tail, I just didn't knew about these things ! I never dropped a tranny before, first swap !
anyway thanks again

Found some interesting info on 4L60 tranny on Sallee Chevrolet web site......
"...... The 4L60 transmission is the successor to the workhorse 700R4 four-speed automatic used in thousands of rear-wheel-drive GM vehicles. Instructions are included for adapting the wiring harnesses in pre-'93 computer-controlled cars to the 4L60 transmission. The 4L60 can also be wired for operation without a computer in street rods, bracket racers, off-road trucks, and other emission-exempt applications. A fourth-gear pressure switch and replacement throttle valve spring are also supplied to calibrate the 4L60 for use with early-model vehicles. A replacement tailshift extension housing (8673906) is available that moves the transmission mount to the same location as a Turbo 400 transmission......" Here's a link......
