best 1/4 time with 3.08 gears or numerically lower

im curious to see what some 1/4 mile times are with "bad" rear end gears. im just wrapping up my build and i might have to use my 9 bolt with 2.77s for at least one more summer unless i find a great deal on a 4th gen rear this summer.

Re: best 1/4 time with 3.08 gears or numerically lower

Depends on the whole combination of parts but unlikely unless you're using NOS. My engine was making 500-550 HP. My high 11 second pass was at 118 MPH. A typical 12.0 run should be around 106-108 MPH. The car was a slug off the line but had huge top end power. It started getting into the camshaft powerband just before the 1000' mark.

A gear change to 4.10 and going from 26" to 28" tall tires got me into the low to mid 11's because it was geared so much better. You need deep gears to get the engine into it's powerband quicker. If it struggles down low because of a highway gear, it doesn't have enough track length to use the full potential of the powerband.

On the other hand, you could easily use a mile or 2 of highway and get to 150+ MPH with high HP and shallow gears.

im running a probuilt 700r4, 3000 stall, cam is a 537/540 with dur at 500 240/246, afr 195 eliminators and a miniram. i know i will greatly benifit from steeper gears but i want to see what i can get out of what i all ready have, last time in previous cars i hated playing the traction game with 4.11's.
