In this month's issue of HPP there is an article on a 91' or 92' firehawk and it said that a dana 44 was installed by SLP. unless I read it wrong. Thats were I got it from.....I could be wrong thats why I am looking for info.....
The only way to get a Dana 44 is from a GM dealer, SLP or Summit and it's out of production and no NOS units that we know of. I have one from a GM dealer.
The SLP Firehawk wasn't a factory car. It was modified by SLP using GMPP. Anyone could buy a Dana 44 from the dealer and install it into their own third gen. As mentioned above, the third gen Dana 44 isn't in production any more so the only ones you'll find are in SLP Firehawks or in cars that were upgraded by their owners.
To find a Dana 44 in very good condition now, expect to pay about the same as buying a new 9" or 12 bolt for a third gen. Used and worn ones are available but you get what you pay for.

SLP bought out GM's remaining stock when GM lost interest in them taking up warehouse space. They're long sold out now. The aftermarket has them available, but like Stephen says, for the price you can just get a 9" or 12 bolt.
