82, auto, not engaging trans

Alright so i bought a z28 with a throw rod, after pulling the motor dropping a new one in, gettin the new one running perfect, get the itch to drive it go to put it in drive, trans isn't engaging, have a b*m shifter also if that makes a difference


what do you think could be my problem???

the engine installer.
during installing the engine the torque converter needed to be fully installed into the transmission before bolting the engine to the trans. if the torque converter slipped out a little the engine pushed the converter and broke the pump gears internally in the trans. The engine or trans will have to come back out and the trans fixed. sorry. Easy to check though. there is a pipe plug next to the shifter on the drivers side of the trans. Pull the plug and start the engine. No matter what gear it is in fluid should pump out making a serious mess. if no atf comes out the hole that means the pump isn't pumping. Make sense?

thanks for the info, if thats the case this blows lol, um ill check that plug and let ya know if theres fluid pumping out or not,
