TV cable properly adjusted? If it is, you may need to remove some weight from the governor. 5K is pretty high for a TPI motor. They are usually well beyond peak torque by then.

agreed about the TV cable, thats usually what it is

my 88 GTA 350 would rev out to about 5500, and when i maually shifted the car it would start to nose over around 56-5700

they sell after market ones, i happen to be using one that is designed to shift at 5700, and im about to put one in that revs to 6400, but im carbed now so that would be way to high for you, but heres the company name 'Shift Technology Products', what i have is auctually a kit for the 700r4 (part #k018), it has directions for what you need and comes with diffrent springs and plates to deterine shif point, i.e. lighter springs = high shifts, heavy springs= early shifts, hope this helps you out

Re: remanufactured 700r4

i did like the haynes manual said. i pressed in teh button and pulled the tv cable into the cable houseing and it made a ratcheting sound whice doing so. it didnt seem to make any adjustment when i open the throttle body at wot for adjustment it seemed to do it when holding the button to adjust the cable. i test drove the car and it shifted extrely hard. whats that all about? i did like the book said!!! so i reajusted the cable to back how it was earlier. it shifts into 2nd about about 10 mph, 3rd at about 20 mph, and 4th at about 40mph

Re: remanufactured 700r4

the proper way to adjust it is with the pan off. the arm should just meet the plunger, and you should see six lines on the plunger. at WOT the plunger should be buried. very fine tuning can be achieved after this by altering the distance from center of the throttle shaft. It takes a lot of monkeying around but is a proven method. This system isn't that complex but needs to be done accurately for good results.

Re: remanufactured 700r4

The cable should be reaching full extension @ WOT. If you simply swapped trans, you may want to go back and get your original governor back.

56-5700 rpm from a TPI motor? I'm going to venture a guess and say that's what the stock tach said. Without aftermarket intake pieces(runners, base, ported plenum) and a larger cam, these motors are done making power by around 4800. Taking it up over 5k will not net you any more speed, it's just harder on the valvetrain.
