T56 Questions in older car

k....curious about retrofitting a T56 in my 64 Nova.

First: What spline is a T56 input shaft, 26?

is the distance from where the tranny mounts to the bellhousing to the end of the input shaft gonna be anywhere close to the same as my Saginaw 4 speed?

Any thing else you can tell me about bolting this trans into my mechanical clutch Nova????

Yup, it's 26 spline input shaft.

Distance from bellhousing flat surface to end of input shaft isn't even close. It's a very, very long transmission. Plan $ for a new driveshaft. Denny's in NY is pretty reasonable for custom jobs, just send them measurements and yoke size and they'll hook you up.

Regarding the clutch...I'd go w/ hydraulic. The T56 has no provisions for a Z-bar. The path of least resistance is to get the GM hydraulic setup for $120 complete and mount it to your firewall.

If you're mechanically inclined at all or know someone who is and is willing to help, then read this thread:

www.nastyz28.com/ubb/Forum15/HTML/000069.html

This guy modified his t56 to work with a mechanical linkage using his standard flywheel, clutch, and throwout bearing therefore saving money on expensive aftermarket parts. He also tells how he modified his crossmember to work with the t56.

If you have any questions about his install you can email him and he will email you back even though he has since sold the car and changed into a Mopar fan.
