Think my transmission mount is shot...need advice

Roads were wet the other night, 2 friends in the car, had some fun with the 'reduced traction' of the wet, empty road Bad idea.

When starting in 1st and all the way through 3rd, my shifter bounces around when I give it gas, so I'm pretty sure I blew out the tranny mount last night, right?

How easy/hard are these to replace?

Re: Think my transmission mount is shot...need advice

do a search and you find instructions. it's easy. it's the motor mounts that are hard. check your motor mounts also. when the motor mounts go then the trans mount gets stressed and goes bad easier. i suggest a poly trans mount because of the fact that when the trans mount breaks the bouncing of the transmission can do some damage to the bolts in the cross member. so i would not drive far with the trans mount broken.

Probably take longer to jack the car up than swap out the mount:

DO NOT get a poly tranny mount!! I have been chasing a vibration since last summer and went through all thge motions only to discover that the poly tranny mount I got from spohn with my x-member was the problem. They are like metal on metal and you feel everything! Keep it rubber.

Re: Think my transmission mount is shot...need advice

While some members have complained about vibration (and it would be annoying), others, me included, have experienced no ill effects whatsoever. From my vantage point, I recommend the poly mount.

Oh, IIRC, UMI suggested using a rubber mount with their torque arm relocation kit. Interesting, huh?

Re: Think my transmission mount is shot...need advice

Anyone happen to have any pics of where the tranny mount is?
Or just a good description?

I assume it shouldn't be too hard to find, but, just wondering...

Your mount won't look exactly like the one in the following pic, though the upper red piece will:

Re: Think my transmission mount is shot...need advice

I have poly engine mounts and a poly trans mount.
When I bought my car the stick would lift about 3 or 4 inches if you were anything over half throttle. First thing I changed on the car. Now I can dump the clutch a 5,000 rpm, and I can't feel it move at all.

Re: Think my transmission mount is shot...need advice

look... poly mounts are the best, but in my experence i didn't get any unwanted vibrations from the trans mount. after putting the poly mount in the car felt tighter. with a V6 in your bird i doubt your gonna get any noticable vibration. when i did the motor mounts then it started to vibrate, however chicks like vibrations my suggestion is to replace the motor and trans mounts and the torque arm mount also because your car is so old. if you want to put rubber back in that is ok . i suggest rubber because they are easier to install and you have a V6. poly is great if you have a V8 engine or you keep breaking the rubber mounts.

Why would that be? Both poly and rubber install the same way.

Re: Think my transmission mount is shot...need advice

your right jamesC they install the same way. but there are extra steps involved in the poly mounts cause you have to drill out the rivets in the stock engine mounts and the torque arm mount and reuse the clam shells. then the mount are sometimes a tight fit because of the harder material. the oem mounts are bolt in and go and therefore easier. just speaking from experience. i have changed lots of motor and trans mounts.
