I am putting an 383 stroker in my 1983 camaro and am wondering if anyone knows of a rebuild kit that will strengthen my tranny enough to withstand about 420 hp. thanks.

My 383 is making 382hp at the wheels (478hp motor) and the T5 seems to be holding up pretty good so far. I'm going with a TKO600 when this one explodes.

$1k for a trans kit and yet you still have the weak stock case. Unless you switch to straight cut gears, the deflect in the case will still eventually lead to the death of the trans. If you spend the $ for straight cuts, then you'd be far ahead to just buy a TKO. - also, note that there is zero warranty on the g-force stuff.
Leave it stock, and don't beat it too hard and it will last plenty long enough to save a little $ for a TKO. - If you can't afford to do it right the first time, can you afford to do it again?
I agree.....the g-force kit only replaces internals......it's the deflection or 'twisting' of the trans. case that pops the trans...The same goes for the factory 10-bolt rear end....weak due to deflection.....I would recommend also the TKO transmissions.

I thought about doing the T56 swap but that would add weight to the car. T56's only handle about 450ft lbs of torque and I believe they weigh about 75lbs more than a T5. My 383 is putting out over 500lbs of torque at the flywheel. I do my own work so trying to wrestle a T56 on and off the car on your back with minimal space can be frustrating. I don't know how much a TKO600 weighs but I love the fact I can just bolt it in and go w/o having to buy crossmembers, cutting floorboards, wiring, etc. Plus when you buy a used T56 you really don't know what kind of abuse it's gone through not to mention the missing parts you have to deal with. If I was rich then I wouldn't care because then I'll be sipping on tea and crumpets with my pinky elevated while Chip Foose builds me a car.

I have heard that the t-56's are good except if you shift them too hard...like powershifting...it burns the syncros out of them......I have seen more that one t-56 that drives fine...but shift bad...

but by the time your done you'll spend about the same amount of money and the tko trans. have great gear ratios....i don't like how the t56 is gears....Just my opinion though.
