1987 IROC w/ 3.45 Borg Warner. HELP

Hey guys and gals,

My 1987 Iroc with stock Borg Warner rear end has developed a noise... Howl actually!

While driving, the rear end howls under power or accelerating. When I lift my foot off the gas pedal, the noise goes away... What does this mean? Who can I turn to for parts to repair??

Thanks!!

Probably a bad pinion bearing...

Parts should be available most anywhere that sells bearings. Fix it before the misalignment damages the gears. Unfortunately it's alot of labor to have to pay for if you can't do it yourself. I'd recommend replacing all the bearings while you have it apart; that would be both pinion bearings, both axle bearings, and the carrier bearings.

Most of the time, this is caused by running it dry, or by having water in the fluid.

Send a message via ICQ to ausrs
excellent advice the only real prob with the 9 bolt is the pinion bearing ...just put it into a shop and get them to replace all bearings and re lap gears in
