t5 from 93-97 v6 into a 86 v8 swap???

I have been trying to gather info on the v6 t-5 93+ model years. Will it bolt up to a 3rdgen v8. So far I have found in the t5 article that the 93 t5 has a longer input shaft. I think it also has a 26 spline shaft though. If the shaft is longer can it be cut off and if so has anyone done this succesfully? Is there an aftermarket spacer for the bellhousing availiable?

I know I read somewhere that the 3rdgen v6 t5 had a longer input shaft also but was a 14 spline. I also found a thread where someone cut this shaft off and used it behind a 3rdgen v8.

I have a 86 Iroc 305. I had a 93 t56 in it but it is broken I found a 94 3.4 v6 t5 for $100 clutch and bellhousing. I have a v8 t5 angle bellhousing. Just need to fix my car temporary. Can it be done?

What I know:

V6 t5 bellhousing is different block to bellhousing bolt pattern.
V6 t5 has longer inputshaft?
v6 t5 has different gearing not perferred for a v8.
v6 t5 is supposedly weaker than a v8 t5
t5 is weak piece of junk
t56 is best solution

Picture of the shafts that I found v6 on left v8 on right. http://www.thirdgen.org/techboard/at...e-dsc01094.jpg

Re: t5 from 93-97 v6 into a 86 v8 swap???

Okay I found this tad bit that shoots my swap in the foot.

’93 and newer GM WC T-5 use the Ford case and bolt pattern, so these will not bolt up to standard Chevy bellhousings.
and
the ’93-95 F-body V6 cars got a Ford case with a GM input shaft. There were no V8 T-5 during these years.

Can anyone confirm this?

Would I be better off to find a mustang WC V8 T5 and use some bellhousing adapter?

Re: t5 from 93-97 v6 into a 86 v8 swap???

its true, the 4th gen t5 used the ford bolt pattern case, and only available with the v6. the v8 trans is the t56. the mustang trans has a very different tailshaft housing and shifter, and does not have a torque arm provision
