Late Shifting 700r4?

I was driving around today and I floored it from a stop light. The car shifted from 1-2 at 5400, and 2-3 at 5900. These weren't manual shifts. Is it bad that the car did the 2-3 shift late, or isn't that a late shift for these cars? I thought normal shift points with the 700r4 was somewhere between 5300-5500. The temp gauge also shot up like crazy to just past the 220* mark. It was at around 180* then just took off after I floored it. I really don't want to have to worry about rebuilding my transmission since I have a race next weekend.

On a side note, my 60' time for that run was 2.67 seconds because I spun all through first gear. Does that seem normal? It just seems really slow. My 1/4 mile time for that same run was 15.01. That seems about right for the 305 TPI in a fully optioned IROC-Z... right?

Thanks,
Mike
