700r4, adding a corvette servo and or shift kit

alright ive got a 1990 Rs with a 700R4, im looking to swap out the 305 for the L31 350, but dont have the money to do everything at once, so i have already put the headers on and the magnaflow catback, i put in 3.73 gears in the rearend with posi traction. Next im gonna mess with the tranny, the car only has 90k on it. The guy that is doing the work, said since i alreay have the lower gears all i will need is the corvette servo, and not a shift kit as well, because it will shift to hard.
i was wondering if you guys could give me some feedback, what should i do.
he also mentioned a billet servo as compared to a corvette servo. whats the difference?
keeping in mind once i finally get my new L31 crate, i want to keep the tbi setup and get up to about 300 HP.
any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

I did the corvette servo and high performance shift kit in my 305tbi i think its pretty cool and fun. Their are better sevos out their but for 300 hp it will do good.

Re: 700r4, adding a corvette servo and or shift kit

I posted this earlier.
I've JUST finished a 700R4 upgrade.
I used the TransGo 700-2-3 reprogramming kit. Along with the kit I also installed a Corvette servo, .500" boost valve, .300" Int/Rev valve and modified pressure regulator valve.
This kit has options for either automatic operation or full manual ( trans is in whatever gear the shifter is in ) I used the automatic operation.
I have to say the result is absolutely the best shifting automatic I've ever had. I've previously had a couple of variations of the B&M shift kit and they're nothing like what you get with the TransGo.
Dana at ProBuilt Automatics offers complete kits which include any or all of the above options.
Highly recommended.
( I want to add that this kit was installed in a low mileage/1991 unit that I did not disassemble beyond dropping the valve body and removing the servo. So far WOT shifts at 6000 rpm and an estimated 400 ft/lbs torque haven't been a problem and I've cooked several 3/4 clutch packs in the past with other kits)

so g lookinRS, i see you too have the 3.73 rear, and installed the corvette servo and the shift kit.
how does it shift with the shift kit and those low gears
also would it be better to go with a billet servo as compared to a corvette servo?

if one used that kit, and opted for full manual, could you do away with the TV cable?

I used the same kit and turned it up pretty well. I went a little overkill on the seperator plate and accumulator springs and all. It shifted VERY hard on WOT shifts, enough to lay 10 feet of rubber from both P295/50/R17 tires in a 5,300 lbs fullsize van. I ended up breaking the sun shell.

Re: 700r4, adding a corvette servo and or shift kit

would the kit be enough to do that? or are you using an actual manual valve body?
are the shifts too harsh for everyday driving?

yes the kit is enough if you go the manual way, and when i shift, there is no dwell time between gears at all and yes it is hard, so if you like the jerk of the car when you shift, you can do that but i do think it is harsh for everyday driving. but i like it, it is fun some time BUT not in the rain!!!
