Viper VSS and 730ECM

Has anyone successfully hooked up a Viper T-56 3 wire VSS to a 730 ECM with out using the SGI-5? I read once you could use a different pin on the ECM, something about an Optical VSS input (C-10 I think) and that would recognize the viper style VSS. Is this true??

Re: Viper VSS and 730ECM

It's Pin BC6 on the '730 harness, and you need to change the flag in the BIN itself to tell the ECM to use that VSS instead of the Digital one.

I'm not exactly sure what signal the Viper VSS puts out though. Do you have a viper tailhousing on your T56, that requires the viper VSS ?

Yes sorry C6 I didnt have my paper work in front of me last night. Yes it is a viper tailhousing with a viper VSS I found this on another post in this forum and dont know if its what I want to do in my aplication. I would like to have some input before I start experimenting!!

"Some more food for thought on the 730.
The 730 has two inputs for the VSS
a.) One is for magnetic VSS = 5 Volt Sine wave
Pins B10 +, and B9 -
4 pulses per revolution, 4000 pulses per mile expected

b.) One for Optical input = 5 volt square wave
Pin C6 +
The nuber of pulses is much higher on this input, searching can find the values. I don't remember right now.

There is a selection bit within the bin to choose which input to use.
You "should" be able to use the buffer box output into C6."

Sadly I to dont know what type of signal the Viper VSS generates. It would be nice to have someone verify its output and that its possible!!

Re: Viper VSS and 730ECM

LOL... Yep, I wrote the stuff on the '730...

You have the Viper VSS, so would seem ideal if you can verify it's output. I'm pretty sure it's a powered Hall-effect sensor (+5V, GND, Sig). It would have to be a digital or analog output, so it will either work directly to the '730, or through the BC6 pin..
