no 2nd gear 700r4(shifts fine in other gears) - Third Generation F-Body Message Boards

hi all, my car suddenly lost 2ng gear and im lost....

ive tried resetting the tv cable and shifter cable but nothing changed

also "passsing gear" is gone....

it drives fine but when accelerating the car goes to redline in 1st then lags and then shifts into 3rd gear. If you try to ease into the gas it just flies up to redline but if you let off it comes back to 3rd gear and drives fine.

maybe some 700r4 expert can clue me into what is broken?

Sounds like you smoked the 2-4 band. The trans has to come out and be rebuilt, preferably with better internals. I highly recommend a kit from Pro-Built.

I never got into the 700R4. Does it use an intermediate sprag like the TH350/TH400? It sounds like the sprag blew up.

First thing I would do is drop the pan and see if there's any hard parts inside it.

fluid is good and no parts in pan...lol i think im done. im bout to sell this car.
