Still shifting early with new prop. adj. TV cable

First off yes YES YES YES....The brand new TV cable is adjusted properly. Even if it wasn't, the TB would still pull the TV cable out too far anyway. But lets say I didn't adjust it right, the moment I floor the gas pedal, the TB will pull the cable out far anyway. It's almost like the TB opens too much or for the cable, and not enough for the accelerator. I'm so F'in sick of early shift points. 75% of the time 1st to 2nd is at 4k rpms, a downshift (if if happens) to the next gear will happen but it will again upshift at 4k. Now once in a blue moon with my FOOT JAMMED through the firewall, it will shift at 4700rpms. But it seems that is too much effort to have the car shift properly.

My opinion is that there is something going on with the accelerator cable and/or the TB assembly.

So again, the TV cable is brand new and adjusted properly. The accelerator cable has too much slack in it so I will replace that. If that doesn't do it, I'm going to put in a cable stop.

I'm not sure if you're using a trans that may have come from a 305 car or you're original trans, but some 305 like an LG4 car had governors that made them shift at low rpms. You might have to look into that if you're sure it's not a TV cable problem.

Well, then if that was the case it would shift at 4k everytime. But it doesn't. On more rare occasions, it won't even shift at all. Twice it hit 5500 to shift, and it once hit 6k and I let off the gas because it wouldn't shift.

Re: Still shifting early with new prop. adj. TV cable

on my ride, after i adjust the tv cable...i would drive down a abandoned road a little, then pop the hood and adjust two clicks here, maybe one click back. until i get the shifting timing feel back. I hate late shifts, and too early shifts sucks too. i tuned it for highway accel, but made sure it would shift ok at 5 mph in parking lots. after 3 or 4 mins of driving 100 feet and adjusting the tv cable ..a click here, a click there....it finally was all tits. hey do you know where i can get a retainer clip to secure the tranny shifter cable to the lower bracket mount under the car? thanks

Well, no matter where I adjust it too, when I go WOT, the TB will pull the cable to the designated spot. It doesn't matter, that's why I'm so confused. I could put the damn thing all the way back to the firewall and as soon as I floor it, the TB will pull it all way forward.

And I would go to the dealer for that part you are talking about.

That makes me feel better, but then how can anyone possibly **** up their trannies by setting it wrong, if going WOT will set it right anyway?

Why all the writeups of how to adjust it properly, why not just say FLOOR IT AND ITS THEN ADJUSTED. LOL!

Re: Still shifting early with new prop. adj. TV cable

ya, dude dont drive it around with late shifting man. when i had my car diagnosed like two years ago at a shop that didnt know squat. they purposlely messed up the and adjusted my transmission throttle valve cable (t v cable) for premature tranny failure. i ask them y it was shifting messed up, they said the tranny needed to be rebuilt or better yet a new one. just didnt make sense. i fixed my probelm by 1. pushd and held the 'gray button' on the cable in, 2. pushed back the black slider then released gray button 3. pushed and held the gray button and manually opening the throttle body manually using the tb lever to wot 4. released the gray button 5. test drived it, and perform my little procedure, (made it up) i would drive down a abandoned road about 300 feet gradually speeding but not past 25 or 30, then stopped, popped the hood and pressed the gray button in and adjusted the slider two clicks forward, or backward, then released the gray button. It took 5 minutes but i found the sweet spot. its been two years or so, daily driver and the tranny is fine, just a leak, but soon fixed. i found the cable clip i was looking for btw. and also youll burn up your tranny driving around with a bad tv cable adjustment, im talking about a brand new tranny, burned after 300 miles. and not to mention the dang looks people gave me.. I would recommend looking up the tranny case numbers, verify thats its built for your model car, and then double check on multiple part suppiler site and try to match the part numbers. thats all i can think of.
