91 axels into a 84 rearend?

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm assuming the axels in my 91RS are 28 spline and the axels in the 84 I'm rebuilding are 26......so, can I swap them? The 91 is an open 2.73..the 84 is a posi 3.23. Thanks

Re: 91 axels into a 84 rearend?

Your 84 posi will need to be replaced to a 28 spline posi to accept the axles but other than that, they will fit into the older housing.

They won't swap.

James, why do you say that they won't swap?

I assume the OP wanted to swap axles only, and not the carrier.

Re: 91 axels into a 84 rearend?

Yeah....James is right, I just wanted to know if the axels would swap w/o replacing the posi. I already spent like $900 on the PBR upgrade from Ed Miller not to mention the $150 summit diff cover.....replacing the posi just aint in the budget right now
