Seals-It Axle seals

I am going to be road racing my 84 Camaro and want to use the Seals-it axle tube seals and was wondering if anyone has installed them on thier 10 bolt 7.5 diff?

If not does any one have a rear-end that is gutted so you can measure the ID od the axle tube so I can purchase the correct diameter Seals-it axle seal?

This seal goes in the axle tube and keeps the diff oil from running down the tube away from the carrier on hard turns or on the banking. I had my Ford 9" lock up from this when I was racing my 65 Shelby Cobra and had to install them to keep it lubed properly.

Thanks for any info!

Re: Seals-It Axle seals

You can't use those in the 10 bolt because the axle bearings get oil from the center. The 9 inch has sealed ball bearings that don't require oil from the differential, so you can use them in the 9 inch. If you are using the tapered roller bearings in the 9 inch then you can't use them in it either. The only way that you could use the seals in the 10 bolt would be to use the weld on Moser housing ends that take the 9 inch Ford sealed axle bearings and order special axles that are made for these bearings.

Re: Seals-It Axle seals

I was thinking of using the Moser "C" clip eliminators which have pressed on sealed bearings. OR I could dump 1/2 Qt in each tube prior to putting the axle on, not like it is street driven, and in road racing the oil will splash the bearings. My main concern is keeping the oil in the center section...

Do you by chance have the inner tube diameter??

I don't have one disassembled right now, but the OD is 2 5/8.

Be sure that the c clip eliminators are made for road racing. Most c clip eliminators are made for drag racing and have small bearings that will not hold up to side loads from hard cornering. The bearings can also slip off of the axles in hard turns and allow the axles to come out. I've seen this on dirt track cars with 9 inch rear ends.

Ya my 9" went through a lot of torture and one DPI Gold track loc spool. I plan on buying a real rear-end when my cash flow gets better.....
