TH350 swap--- HELP!!!

NEED HLEP!

I've read several threads on swapping a TH350 into a car with a 700R4 but I can't seem to get the answers I need to successfully complete this project. I am swapping a long tailshaft COAN Th350 into a 83 T/A. It has Spohn PN399 Torque arm which was bolted to the 700R4 that was in the car and working successfully(Too good. Tearing up 700R4's left and right).
I bought a Hurst #5500001 Swap kit and bolted the bracket to the Tailshaft of the TH350. Pulled the 700R4 and left the bushing and the metal clamp on the torque arm.
Here's my problem. Holes in the Hurst bracket aren't even close to the bolt pattern on the torque arm bracket. The torque arm clamshell bracket has 3 bolts. Two bolts on the torque arm brakct that line up front to back, 2" spacing, and one bolt above those. The Hurst bracket doesn't have but 2 holes and they are 2 5/8" apart. I'll try to take a pic of these parts and post it.
Am I missing some adapter that goes bewteen both brackets? Has someone already modified this thing? is there a thread on here with pics? Called Hurst/B&M. They are no hlep.
Please give me a hand with this.

I cant remember which kit I used, but I ended up just drilling a few new holes. I think I even added a extra bolt. No big deal.

Oh yeah, make sure you either get a dipstick tube with a boot instead of a o-ring or a flex version like lokar that has double o-rings. Trust me it will be worth it.

Re: TH350 swap--- HELP!!!

I thought about just drilling new holes. But I was concerned about the ht. and the suspenion geometry.
I guess if I'm close I can adjust the torque arm for pinion angle and such. How about right to left? If the mounting point is slightly moved from passenger to driver side or vice versa will this be a problem?

Re: TH350 swap--- HELP!!!

Ok. Just got an input from a local guy with an 89 Camaro. He says "DO NOT ATTACH THE TORQUE ARM TO THE TAILSHAFT". It will break on hard acceleration. Since we're running a 408 Solid roller SBC w/ Nitrous I would hope we have some hard accelerarton. This motor ran 10.48 on a 150shot of spray in my 3650# 55Belair.
So he recommended fabbing up a mount off the crossmember. Since we have a very experienced welder in our crew we're going to fab up a front mount off the crossmember. Anyone done this? Any pics?

Thanks,

Re: TH350 swap--- HELP!!!

That is the best solution. I don't have pics, but I did it when I tried a 200-4R.

Re: TH350 swap--- HELP!!!

i have a th350 in my 85 but i bought a kit from jegs that mounts the torque arm (2/3 the length of stocktorque arm) in the trans tunnel the kit includes everything including the new torque arm (u can even get an adjustable t/a) but kind of a pain in the butt to install b/c u need to remove the carpet, drill holes, mount the bracket, then mount the torque arm, reinstall carpet and ur good to go. easier to get x member with torque arm mount but i think my setup is stronger, (personal opinion-not yet proven) need subframe connectors
