Power Braking, Bad or OK??
This debate has come up on the street racing board. Some people say that doing this doesn't damage anything. Could an experienced mechanic shed some light on this, I guess my word that it puts damage on the tranny and rear just isn't enough.

Stalling against the converter should be limited to no more than five seconds according to all manufacturers and this is for esting a tranny anyhow. This creates a ton of heat in the converter. Now I know many people use this to launch at the strip but you are always taking your chances when you do things like this.

"Power braking" does indeed create a lot of heat in the converter, but if youre doing burn-outs you can wear-out and/or damage your rear brakes.
Ummm... overheating transmission fluid breaks it down quite a bit. NOT GOOD!
If you wanna do burn-outs, get a line lock put on your car. To keep from burning up your tranny fluid, leave off idle.
